Have You Jumped? If so, are you falling or flying?

“Jump, and you will find out how to unfold your wings as you fall.”

-Ray Bradbury

This is my mind lately as I work on my WIP:

My wings have unfolded – I am getting the hang of gliding, my only worry is after landing will I be able to take off again and find my way through revisions… ;o)

I don’t know. But I DO know that I am excited to be someone who stepped off the ledge, throwing myself into an adventure that I will forever be changed by…

How about you…have you jumped? Are your wings out and are you discovering all there is to see with ease?

- Or -

Are you like me, sensing that flying is awesome, landing looks scary and the return trip might be a reason to invest in Dramamine?

Just remember:

“Aerodynamically, the bumblebee shouldn’t be able to fly; but the bumblebee doesn’t know it so it goes on flying anyway.”

-Mary Kay Ash

Don't forget to enter my To Kill A Mockingbird contest!

Have a Terrific Thursday!

  1. I think I'm hang-gliding. Controlled fall...

I love that you quoted Ray Bradbury! I like to pretend he's my great-grandpa. :-D

  2. Love the Bradbury quote. Like you, once I took the plunge I couldn't imagine doing anything else. There are panic moments, but this...this feels so amazingly right.

I look at it this way, after you've learned to fly - how could you not? (Hugs)Indigo

  3. Great post Courtney--sorry I haven't been around much! (WriteOnCon takes up a LOT of my time)

And yay for jumping! It hasn't been all easy and I've had some bumps and issues, but I'm still glad I did it. ;)

  4. I vow to be a bumble bee. I knew there was a place in the universe for my kind of flying. :)

  5. Like entering cold water in the swimming pool jumping is the best way. I am reserved so easier said than done.

  6. I jumped off the barn once with a sheet tied two corners to the end of a rake, the other corners to a hoe.

I got stitches. I usually did get stitches when I tried to fly. I still do.

But the scars sure are cool! To be truthful, and I've had stitches over a dozen times, now, it's not that bad.

Point is: Don't be afraid to land hard. It happens.

    - Eric

  7. I love the idea of needing dramamine. Hilarious! And so true. Personally, I'm glad I've jumped off the deep end with writing. I may be drowning, but it's a beautiful sea. :)

  8. I've always loved that about the bee. In fact, I've collected a few because they're so inspiring. Hard working, organized, efficient, and yet they dance among the beauty of the flowers. Art and Skill.

  9. Fly, Courtney, FLY!! Be(e) fearless.

We're still in Maine. (I think we have decided to leave a little early and come home Sunday.)

    I love the R.B. quote. :)

  10. Bradbury has the best quotes!

Most of the time I think I'm teetering on the ledge - just on the verge of jumping - love the thrill, the anticipation, the andrenalin & the fear :)

  11. Then there are the moments you feel pushed off the ledge only to look over and see holes in your wings. Your outlook however is much better! :)

  12. Definitely gliding through my WIP since flying required too much energy (flapping those wings n' all). If I find myself getting too close to land, I'll start pumping it up a notch so I can get high enough to look down over it all and get a better perspective. Until then, just moving where the writing wind takes me.

(Did I beat that metaphor to death or what?)

  13. I'm flying, but my hands are covering my eyes. Every once in a while, I peek through my fingers...

  14. My sister keeps telling me that I need to get pushed off the cliff because I hate to jump. :)

  15. I love the quotes, Courtney. They are awesome! I think I'm flying. Thanks for the inspiration to try for greater heights.

  16. Ah, thanks for making me think of Bradbury :D GOD, there's something about his books - transports me to some atmospheric, moody place. Needed that!

  17. Great quote, great post. I'm so thrilled you've taken that step and are soaring and I'm thrilled to have a chance to watch you do it. :)

  18. Congrats! You won the Cynthia Vardhan giveaway on my blog! Can you please email your mailing info to ? Thanks!

  19. Like many of you Bradbury brings even more than a smile to my face. I love everything about the man.

I am ever so glad to have decided to fly even if the dramamine is often essential ;o)

At least on these flights there are flocks around me that remind me every day how wonderful the view is and how exciting the journey continues to be... ;o)
